Believed to be over 5000 years old the Stones of Stenness once formed a complete circle (see markers on the ground where more stones once stood).This is just part of a World Heritage Site in the Islands of Orkney covering numerous Neolithic structures dating from pre-history.
Some are villages, with rooms, furniture, beds, hearths and other necessity of life.
Others are circles and underground chambers, with no apparent necessity, which give us a tantalising glimpse into a culture we may never understand.

Equipment
4 GoPro HERO2 cameras, with a prototype camera cradle/rig, triggered by 4
gentWIRE camera
syncronisers. Suspended below a Dan Leigh Cruiser kite with 6ft/2m span.This technique produces two hemispheres, and a different workflow in PTGui from the classic ground pano technique. This results in extra effort BUT impossible angles!

Behind the scene : how this panorama was made
The camera rig taking this panorama was suspended under a kite, the idea was to get high enough to see everything but not so high as to make the monument insignificant.If you look carefully in the picture you can see the point of opposition, where the sun is directly behind the camera, and in the center is the shadow of the camera rig floating above the monument.
