Since the dams of Cyprus overflowed on March 4, 2004 there has been very little significant rainfall. Water levels are now so low that the Island is suffering severe water shortages with supplies being limited to 3 or 4, 24 hour periods per week.

The ‘beginnings’ of changes are now being made, with upgrades to two of the desalination plants in the Larnaca area, together with work beginning on temporary mobile plants.

So here on the shoreline - with the sun setting behind the power station - we see new pipes being laid to increase the flow of sea water to the processing plant which stands back behind the bamboo crop beside the coast road.
