Religious beliefs are found in one way or another in all cultures. Religions tend to give individuals an extraordinaryly strong sense of group identity, defined often against those who don't share the same beliefs (with the historical results we all know). The Catholic Church has been proclaiming its universality and love for all mankind since its very beginnings, some two millenia ago, which the great baroque artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini simbolized in the open architectural arms of the Piazza San Pietro in front of St Peter, in Rome, shown in this picture taken from the top of St. Peters' Basilica's dome, designed by Michelangelo.

Las religiones tienden a dar a los individuos un extraordinario sentido de identidad grupal, a menudo definida por oposición a quienes no comparten tales creencias -con los resultados históricos que conocemos. La iglesia católica lleva proclamando su universalidad y su amor por todos los seres humanos desde su creación hace unos dos milenios, idea que genialmente reflejó el artista barroco Gian Lorenzo Bernini por medio de los arquitectónicos brazos abiertos a todos quienes acuden a la Basílica de San Pedro, en Roma, desde cuya cúpula, diseñada por Miguel Ángel, saqué esta fotografía.
