Some people may ask why the Wye, I reply why not!
The river Wye is the UK's 4th longest river covering some 155 miles from its source on the slopes of Plynlimon in mid Wales all the way to the Severn Estuary (near Chepstow). During its journey it forms the backdrop of some amazing views from Builth Wells, to Symonds Yat and what you see here the city of Hereford with Hereford Cathedral in the distance.
The bridge I am standing on, Victoria Bridge, was opened in 1898 to commemorate the 1897 Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. In the UK it is listed as a Grade II bridge which means that it deserves "every effort to preserve them".
For Hereford it provides an important foot route joining the two halves of the city split by the river. It connects two very different areas. On the north side it is quite close to the city centre and surrounded by housing while on the south we have wide open public open green spaces, children play parks, tennis courts and mini golf. The contrast between the two is really amazing. Taking this panorama also took a bit of patience to get this empty view, it really was a busy spot.
Taken with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G fisheye lens. Mounted on a Nodal Ninja 5 panorama head and R-D16 rotator atop a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod. Shots taken at 6 positions 60° apart, tilted 15° down, and another shot taken looking straight up. Raw files then processed in darktable v5.2.1 before being stitched together using PTGui 10.0.19 Pro and converted using Pano2VR 6.1.15 pro.
