The urban development of the Mediterranean coast of southern Europe, forced the importation of palm 'cheap' from North African countries, in some was traveling the red palm weevil.

This weevil native to tropical Asia, The Rhynchoporus ferrugineus, the dreaded weevil, came to Spain in 1993 in palms imported from Egypt.

Since then he has constantly expanded and greed seems to be endless. The weevil attack is deadly. The female lays eggs in non infected palm trees, and in six months the larvae can kill the plant.

No one knows how many have fallen. Thousands, probably hundreds of thousands. The red palm weevil infestation is the clearest example of the disaster that can cause accidental or deliberate entry of an alien species invasion with great ability on the fauna and flora.
