On 19 September I drove by my local Apple store on the way home from work. There was a pop up tent and two people waiting. The next day I found a line wrapped around the corner with two blue shirted gents controlling who gets into the store at what time. This was 8:00 am – two hours before normal business opening, that's when I showed up. There were people in there before I arrived with my camera, it's possible they opened at 7.
This was product release to the general masses day for the iPhone 5s (i5s). It really amazes me that we HAVE to HAVE the latest technology the DAY it is available. What does that say about the mortality of our toys?
When desktops became available a family would purchase one. That desktop was meant to last years before the next upgrade. In the '90s and '00s the life span changed to about 5 years decreasing again in the late '00s for upgrades to about every 3 years. Now almost all things electronic are surpassed/obsolete in 6 months or less.
It's incredible!
Here is my ode to the line of folks who absolutely, must have their Apple product.
