Dental Car

The "Dental" train car 15095 is a former sleeper built in 1913 by Barney & Smith Company, Dayton, Ohio, USA. It has been used as a passenger car by Canadian Northern Railway in 1913 - 1921 and by Canadian National until 1951 when it was converted to the "transportable" dental clinic to serve remote rural areas. The car has a comfortable sleeping rooms - one for a dentist and another for a nurse, an examination room, a dark room, a waiting room, a kitchen and a bathroom. The car was set up for three power systems - battery, train power and Ontario Hydro grid compatibility.

During its service as a dental car from 1951 to 1979 the car provided a dental care to thousands and thousands of Canadians living in large remote areas of Northern Ontario.

This is the only dental car remaining and exposed in Canada. After 1979 it was owned by Ex-Toronto & York Division of the Canadian Railway Historical Association until 1990 when it had been moved to the Railway Museum at the town of Smiths Falls (Eastern Ontario) where it is exposed now.
