The main 275KV electricity line south from the Kincardine (disused) and Longannet (second largest in the UK) Coal Fired Power Stations crosses the Forth Estuary via a huge overhead line spanning over 800m. Longannet's Chimney can be seen in the Pano on the horizon, about 60degrees right of the start point.
In a more sensible age (last century :-) the Coal for Longannet was mined from directly under where this shot was taken, and was consumed without ever seeing the light of day. Today it is freighted in by ship, train and truck because (we are told) it is more economical.
