Mansfield Mill was first built in 1819 and ran commercially, always on water power, into the 1960s. It is now an Indiana State Historic Site and still occasionally mills grain, possibly even some coming from Amish farmers in the area. However, the US Occupational Health and Safety Administration has been increasingly restricting the mill's operation due to the many whirling gears and belts (and costly lawsuit potential, I expect), so the milling might yet end, permanently.The sleepy town of Mansfield is within Parke County, Indiana, which is locally billed as the "Covered Bridge Capital of the World" for its 30 superb covered bridges. The one here is, at 247 feet, the longest in the county and can be driven through by car. Hopefully, it will escape arson, unlike the one at the nearby Bridgeton Mill, which was burnt down on April 28, 2005.
