The Way of Human Rights, Article 13

The Way of Human Rights is an outdoor sculpture. It is located in the street between two buildings of „Germanisches Nationalmuseum“. The sculpture was created by the Israeli artist Dani Karavan. The elements of the sculpture are: 1 gate - 27 round, white concrete pillars – 2 pillars in the ground, of which you can only see a round plate, 1 oak column.

Engraved in each pillar is the title of an article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The engraving is bilingual, both German and another language, varying from column to column.

Nuremberg was the City of the „Reichsparteitage“ – the Party Rally of the Nazis. Nuremberg sees this past as a challenge to stand up for Human Rights and Democracy. In 2001, Nuremberg received the UNESCO Prize for Human Rights Education. The Way of Human Rights is just one of the many Nuremberg activities in this field.

This pano was taken during a very special event. From the 7th of June until the 11th of June 2023 the German Protestant Church Festival took place in Nuremberg. Traditionally, there is a strong focus on justice, peace and the preservation of God´s good creation during these festivals. Another focus during this years’ Festival was the support of the Protestant church for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. As one preacher during a service put it: Our God is the God of life, not the God of a specific life design.
