This is the one-room schoolhouse exhibit in the Harrisburg Area Museum. The museum complex contains a number of buildings that represent various aspects of local history. These include displays of equipment, significant family histories, several small structures (including this schoolhouse), and even an erratic rock deposited here during the Missoula floods, 13,000 - 15,000 years ago. (For an example of these rocks, see this earlier WWP entry.)
The schoolhouse exhibit recreates the type of buildings typical of the last century and earlier. Such single-room schoolhouses were common in rural areas, and varied in size from a few students to perhaps 40.
It's interesting to reflect on the difference between this learning environment and the remote learning that became common for students during the pandemic. Will in-person learning to become history? Probably not, as most students returned to the classroom by the end of this term. Despite that, there are likely to be some long-term changes as history continues to march forward.
