The water wheel

 The summer and winter side of using an editing interface I'm not used to: I continuously forget about saving my input while using the new contribution interface... now let's see if I can reconstruct what I wrote in the first place.

Here we have a nice little spot that attracts a lot of people in summer who travel the bicycle route that follows the water coming out of lake Starnberg in the south traveling several kilometres in the north where it fuels another river and another river and at some point the Danube. Children are fascinated by the simplicity of the idea how to lift water on a higher level just from the pure power of this little stream. This is a working reminder of how many water wheels where working alongside the Würm in former times. During winter the water wheel is lifted out of the water since ice can easily harm this construction. The theme about "summer and winter" (or summer vs. winter?) reminds me of the fact that even today a lot of bicycle routes are planned for tourists and not for those who use their bikes during the whole year. The simple distinction between ways for tourism and daily use: is there a planned and working winter service for the road? We often enough have snow in this region so close to the Alps.

Das Rad ist ein gutes Symbol für den Ablauf der Jahreszeiten. Hier wird das Wasser aber nur noch geschöpft, um in einen Wassertrog zu fliessen, der einen Überlauf zurück in die Würm hat. Das ist natürlich hübsch anzusehen, gerade auch für Kinder, die mit den Eltern auf einer kleinen Radltour hier gerne einen Zwischenstopp einlegen. Biber sind entlang der Würm aktiv, sodass die stattlicheren Bäume mit einer Umzäunung vor der Vernichtung geschützt werden müssen. Der Radweg entlang der Würm ist leider nicht durchgehend zu allen Jahreszeiten befahrbar, bisherige Vorstellung geht von Schönwetterradlern aus und übersieht die Bedürfnisse von Pendlern und Alltagsradlern. Ein Jahreszeitenwechsel in dieser Hinsicht für die Denkmuster von Verkehrsplanung und Politik ist hier wünschenswert.
