During WW2 many bunkers were built in order to protect the population during the air raids. In the northern German town of Bremen there are nowadays still more than 50 of them left, some of them located in privileged residential areas. Now a construction company has found a way to transform them into luxury condos. As the steel armored walls are more than 1m thick, special concrete cutting tools had to be used to cut the window openings. Inside the shelter new partition walls are erected. On top of the roof, penthouse condos will be constructed. For sure everything is based on the most ridged foundation someone could think of.

By chance in 2008 I took a panorama on the same spot, showing the bunker unused and almost forgotten there. In order to make it less ugly, the facade was painted mimicking windows.
