Zeche Rudolph in the south of Essen was one of many small coal mines in the ruhr district. Founded around 1830 it was never very successful, discontinued after a century and finally closed in 1966.

All buildings except the machine building were abandoned at that time. Windows, roof and doors are missing now, there are only the bolts on the baseplates left where the engines have been. Nature has found its way back into the building. It´s not easy to find right in the forrest. So only a very few hikers find and visit this really forgotten place.
