The building experienced a devastating fire in 1903 which destroyed copper onion domes that once graced the roof, and left the interior in ruins. Rebuilding began that same year.
The Temple was purchased by Bay Arts Council in 2005 for preservation so future generations can experience the living history this architectural treasure has to offer.
While every level of the structure embodies the passing of time, the attic is my favorite. It inspired a conceptual short film/music video shot on location at the Temple. Click on the light bulb in the Quicktime panorama (or here if you're viewing the Flash panorama) to see "Box of Pandora," and a tour of the building.
Special thanks to Bay Arts Council for permission to photograph this location.
