The different ditches and circles you can see date from different periods in pre-history, showing that over the millennium this hill top site remained an important place in the lives & rituals of the peoples who lived in this area of Scotland.
People still make pilgrimages to this place today. Look around and find the Custodian's Hut where a small exibition helps you learn and interpret the site and its past. Descend the ladder down into the main cairn which is a concrete dome allowing the visitor to see its secrets. Look around the horizon and find the telecommunication mast from the 20th Century. This hill-top site is as important in today's society as it was 5500 years ago!
Wondering how this shot was taken? Look in the sky!
