Living in Venice is a strange experience. You feel like to be in a big house, a large interior, the one you have the key of is just another room, as well as the campo (square) with your favorite restaurant, or the morning coffee place. Living in Giudecca ile is an even deeper experience. City is in front of you, separated and connected by the water. Since the first month I started speaking with people in vaporetto, making my same way home. This happens to everybody here, making a transgenerational feel of community. People who choose to come to live here, it is the part of Giudecca Ile more rapidely and constantly connected to Venice, has something in common, something I did not discovered yet. The thing is when I come back home from work I come here, in the Palanca bar, I'll find someone I know, for a rapid drink and to exchange 2 words. If I don't I only have to wait, reading a book with an ice coffee in my hand. The community, or part of it will gather arond me, as around the first known one sat at the table. Since we all live within 10 minutes on walk we meet constantly, we share lunches and dinners, books, music, friends etc. Few ones were really born here, there is no "little village" bad feelings yet. The city, with day workers, tourists, schooltrips, is always in front of us, close and so far away in the warm light of sunset, plug in another swing of things.
Some words on the setup:
Shooting with a 10Mpx digital compact camera and a good tiny fisheye converter, on a monopod, means the weight factor is 1.1 kilos for the WHOLE setup, means it is pocketable, and you can have it always with you. Yes, quality is not outstanding, but believe tiny unintrusive things allows you INCREDIBLE freedom, lets you discover other ways of using panos. It becomes a social thing.
