Once a year the university where I work gives the staff (as opposed to the faculty and students) an afternoon off and treats us to lunch and entertainment. They call it Staff Appreciation Day. It is held in Memorial Glade in the center of campus - there is a four-story library buried under the grass here.
The inflated bear is our mascot, named Oski, and the cursive Cal was painted on the grass for the occasion.
It was a nice gesture, but personally I am not fond enough of hot dogs to stand in a long line for one, and the hip-hop music quickly drove me back to my office.
