When I think of gardens I imagine a quiet place — a place of reflection and peace. The John Denver Sanctuary near the Rio Grande park in Aspen represents that type of place for many of his fans. Created a few years after his death, the sanctuary is a Zen type rock garden with large granite boulders inscribed with lyrics from his songs including a field of rounded stones representing musical notes.

When I arrived to photograph this spot I was greeted by the city sprinklers in full force. A few minutes later they stopped leaving the wet rocks you see here. The gentleman standing in the photo was from New Mexico. He was telling me of the adventures of his two week BMW motorcycle adventure, while his family visited relatives. His "finding himself tour" included a delightful, but brief snowstorm on Independence Pass the previous day. He was on his way south to Durango.
