The Huerto Del Cura has a status of Artistic Garden and is famous in Elche and all of Spain for its great variety of Mediterranean, tropical and oriental plants. The gardens main feature are its palm trees set in a relaxed and quiet atmosphere so everyone can walk around and enjoy the vegetation. Amongst the great variety are collections of other plants from all over the world inlcuding a lot of species that have adapted to the local climate and conditions. The Huerto del cura also has typical Spanish Mediterranean vegetation such as Lemon trees, Orange trees, etc. The gardens most important asset is a unique palm tree, La Palmera Imperial (Imperial Palm tree) of eight arms (see WWP Gardens By Antonio Victor Garcia Serrano).

The Huerto Del cura is a recognized landmark in the whole region. Species such as myrtles, jasmines, geranium, bamboo, yuccas, hibiscus or rubber plants live and share the same environment in total harmony contributing to the beauty and culture of the garden.

The particular area of the Huerto which is captured in the panorama is known as La Rocalla (Rocky Area). This area has a wide range of cactuses which were given or purchased by the owners since the fifties and have gradually been introduced into this location inside the Huerto. The cactuses, rocks and ponds which make up this rocky area give it an exotic touch. Note the turtles basking in the sun ontop of the rocks by the pond.

The Huerto Del cura is a significant symbol of the city and a great attraction as it gathers tourists from all over. It is a place where one can quietly and peacefully interact with and truly appreciate the beauty of nature.

I would like to thank Don Francisco Orts Serrano and Don Manuel A. Mas Mas for giving us access to the Huerto and allowing us to take the panoramas as well as providing us with information about the Huertos History.
