Before you is the St Lawrence II, built in 1953 as a training vessel for the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. She has proudly represented Canada at many special events, including
OPSAIL '64, '76 and '92. A traditionally rigged
brigantine, it is now owned and operated by
Brigantine Incorporated, a non-profit group offering
sailing programs for 13- to 18-year-olds.
It is moored in the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour basin. Built for the
1976 Summer Olympics, Portsmouth Olympic Harbour boasts 300 slips, and continues to host the yearly
CORK regatta, the largest freshwater regatta in the world.
Behind you is the wall of
Kingston Penitentiary. Built in 1835, it is one of the world's oldest continually-operated prisons. The Pen is home to many of Canada's most notorious criminals, including
Paul Bernardo.
