This is the space in front of the entrance hall of the Freiburg University of Music. The entrance hall itself is the white part of the building. The large brick wall to the left is the wall of the concert hall of the university.

In the centre of the panorama, you can see a group of life size bronze figures - „Die Lauschenden“ (The Listening Ones). They were created from 1979 to 1983 by the sculptor Karl-Henning Seemann. Two of the figures are pressing their ears against the wall of the concert hall to find out whether they can perceive the music played inside.

This panorama was taken on the afternoon of Palm Sunday. So, no concert took place in the hall. The listening ones were trying to hear in vain.

But on other occasions you can listen to inspiring concerts by the students of the Freiburg University of Music. On those occasions I prefer to go inside to enjoy the concerts with much better acoustics. When you go to a concert, do not forget to wave to the group outside to honour their perseverance.
