The Reading Viaduct was completed and opened in 1893. This is the southernmost portion of the viaduct that still stands. After the Center City Commuter Connection tunnel was completed in 1984, the viaduct was abandoned. The section of the viaduct just south of here to the Reading Terminal was demolished in 1990.
Plans to renovate this portion of the viaduct, which would extend the Rail Park from the north, are in progress.
