Hidden away on Maple Island in the Rideau River above the Rideau Falls is  a sculpture called RISE by Amy Thompson.

Installed in 2019 Rise represents a Great blue heron a bird native to this area, a beluga whale and the white pond lily that surrounds the island in July and August. The white finish references the nearby Minto Bridges that join Maple Island with Green Island to the mainland via Union Street. The base of the sculpture shows a sound wave pattern, engraved using the Algonquin language.

This location, including the Ottawa River watershed south from the Mattawa River is located on the traditional unceded, and unsurrendered territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin People.

Equipment
