Morning Star

Morning Star created by Alex Janvier

The Canadian Museum of History hosted the annual Winterlude Pow Wow. The local Indigenous community put on a great show of spiritual and cultural significance complete with colourful Regalia, the traditional and often sacred clothing, accessories and artifacts worn or carried during various ceremonies, such as powwows, celebrations and pan-national gatherings.

The Spirit of Haida Gwaii

The Grand Hall of the Museum contains more than 20 totem poles from the Islands of Haida Gwaii on the west coast of Canada. Some of these very tall artifacts are rightfully being returned to Haida villages on the island.

Since 1970 the frozen Rideau Canal has been a part of winter in Ottawa. The feeling of gliding over ice with skates, the fastest way a human can move without mechanics, is really fun and liberating.

Sadly, this year, the Rideau Canal did not open for skating due to weather warmer than normal.
