The mast at the Durris transmitting station rises to a height of 322 m (1,056 ft) above ground level and is the tallest structure in Scotland.
The triangular cross-section guyed steel lattice mast was constructed in 1961 for the Independent Television Authority to provide a 405-line VHF Band III television service to the Aberdeen and northeast Scotland area. Transmissions from Grampian Television commenced on 30 September 1961.
The mast is now owned by Arqiva and supports many VHF, UHF and SHF antennas for various radio communication and broadcasting services.
