Caption
Annually in mid-March, first-year architecture students build and parade a dragon across the campus of Cornell University. This year we had overcast skies and snow; other times we've had bright sun and warm temperatures.

Sometimes the dragon sports shiny green scales, sometimes it towers over the crowd. This year the dragon's scales consisted of a long series of metal frames covered with white cloth, which the students painted during the parade's progression.

Over the years the event has grown considerably tamer, in terms of crowd behavior. Until very recently, the dragon disappeared in a roaring bonfire at the end of the parade. These days, students simply disassemble it and cart it away for disposal.

Still, for those students who spend much of their time building scale-model buildings, this full-size project can be a good diversion during a bland part of the year and much of campus turns out for a couple of hours of fun.
