Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum

This is the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. Planes exemplify one idea of scale, because they are built with the same basic forms at different sizes. In fact, models of planes often use the term "scale model" to emphasize this. So, a museum like this illustrates scale as a ratio: presenting similar shapes and ideas at different sizes.

This panorama includes relatively small planes. In fact, some scale models can be seen if you look closely. But it is dominated by one of the largest planes ever built: the Hughes H-4 Hercules "Spruce Goose". Although there was only one built, and it only flew once, it is perhaps one of the most notorious of the large planes.

The museum itself is housed in multiple buildings. The one pictured here focuses on airplanes. A separate building focuses on spacecraft. While that one also houses some planes and helicopters, it also includes many probes, rockets, and other examples of space science and technology. Other parts of the museum grounds include a theater and a water park.
