The Schönberg is a small hill south of Freiburg and practically the backyard of our new home in Merzhausen. Many narrow and wider paths provide access and it's very nice for a short walk with my son on a Saturday morning.

Our small path a few meters below the summit shows a relatively young beech forest with some old trees, whose growth suggests they were standing alone in their youth. Actually there where pastures and even agriculture in the past which the forest took back once they where not used any more starting some decades ago.
