This plateau high in the hills above Lancaster is the source (Beginning) of the river Ribble that winds its way across Lancashire down to its estuary into the Irish Sea at Preston. In addition the Ribblehead Viaduct forms a backdrop as it carries the Settle to Carlisle railway across the moors.

As luck would have it the famous Lancashire weather closed in for the hour that I was there, first the Sun hid in the clouds, then the fog rolled in, the sleet and snow followed, it improved when a biting wind started to move the cloud on, but by then my limbs where starting to freeze so a couple of Pano's were taken and I started the walk back. Of course following a warm drink, the sun reappeared and a train rumbled across the viaduct. During the drive up and down the sunshine blazed beautifully of course!
