River borders are an example of borders generated by nature. Other examples of borders generated by nature may be borders of continents, ice-fields, lakes, islands etc.

These natural borders are originally less sharp and more diffuse compared to the borders built by man and civilisations. One of the major purpose of the borders is to separate and shape the activities and processes in order to obtain greater results. Here the stony borders of the river regulate its flow, protect the town from flooding and facilitate boat trafic.
