It was decided that an event of this importance was something that the nation should celebrate. An additional bank holiday was announced along with a number of events. This including the River Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, the lighting of a nationwide network of beacons and a Jubilee concert held right outside Buckingham Palace to name but a few.
At a more local level people arranged street parties of all sizes. In some cases roads were closed to allow the parties to take place on them. Only a matter of hours earlier this was a busy road full of cars. As soon as they had gone, bunting went up, stalls were setup, tables and chairs were arranged and the music started. The weather was in our favour and people turned out. The atmosphere was amazing. It was one of those rare times that a community comes together.
