The Castel Hocheppan is located about 8 km east of Bozen on the hillside overlooking the valley. Today visitors take the short walk up from the parking lot to try their luck with archery and eat some local food in the castle restaurant. The real jewel of the castel are however the Romanesque frescoes in the chapel, dating from the early 13. century. The frescoes of a hunting scene on the outside are a rare example of a non-religious wall painting of that area in this region. They give only a tiny taste of what visitors will see (but are not allowed to photograph) on the inside.
