In this area south of Europe, where the precipitation is scarce and concentrated, the regulatory role of the forest is vital to avoid avalanches and keep the soil fertile.

These old forests north of the city of Malaga, the Mediterranean forest was replanted in 1940 with pine (Pinus halepensis). The old oaks (Quercus ilex, Quercus suber) are mixed with pines and other species (Ceratonia siliqua).

Declared a Natural Park and used as a recreational area for the city of Malaga.
