Our own plot of forest includes numerous hardwoods, which are preferred by the mushroom spawn that gets injected into holes drilled into freshly cut trees.
The scene shows a number of bolts (short tree segments) cut to length, drilled, injected, and sealed with beeswax. Our two daughters usually work alongside us, as here, when we take on these types of projects.
After the logs with mushroom spawn age for about 18 months, we can immerse them in water for day and then, a week later, pick off mushrooms to enjoy ourselves or sell as we can.
