This Aspen grove in Aspen Colorado is in the White River National Forest by Castle Creek several miles East of Maroon Bells. Aspen groves are the largest living beings in the world, as each grove is a root system that springs up trees wherever it can. Although each tree seems separate, they all share and are born from the same root system. They don't spread seeds on the wind as most other trees do.

The largest Aspen grove in the world was nearby, but I just couldn't get there this trip. Most groves survive even the worst natural disasters; even the largest of avalanches do not spell disaster to an Aspen grove, although many of the trees are felled, the grove will renew itself over many years as the topography allows.
