In 1861 William Gilbert Rees found a nice spot on the shores of Lake Wakatipu just in sight of a remarkable mountain range named „The Remarkables“. During the gold rush of 1862 William Gilbert Rees gave up the farm and opened a hotel named „The Queen’s Arms“. Now known as „Eichardt’s Private Hotel“ it is the oldest building of Queenstown.
Queenstown is a resort town and a major center of adventure tourism on the South Island. Among the possible activities the Wikipedia names: “Skiing, snowboarding, jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping, paragliding, sky diving, fly fishing”. These are the daytime activities whilst at night pubcrawling and partying seem to be the major activities.
The Skyline Gondola takes you to Bob’s Peak on Ben Lomond. There is a great panorama view from the platform on the top.
