Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol is one of the most famous bridges in the UK. It was finally built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, also responsible for other remarkable technical feats like the Great Western Railway or the world’s first steamship, the "SS Great Britain", still lying in Bristol Harbour underneath. While the bridge project was already started in 1754, it was not until 1864 that the construction of the bridge as we experience it today, was finished.

The bridge is spanning Avon Gorge 75 m above the river. Avon Gorge is a very scenic site, and one of the most enjoyable locations to look at both the gorge and the bridge is from the terrace of the Avon Gorge Hotel in Clifton, the most trendy district of the city (the rooms in this hotel, by the way, come in two major categories: village view and bridge view - get the latter if you can!).

During our holidays in Summer 2015 we lodged for two days at the Avon Gorge Hotel. For me, during this stay one of the highlights of the whole trip happened when, on our first evening there, Robert Bilsland and his wife Dorinda came down from Great Malvern and we spent a great and very inspiring evening in "The Bridge Café“, adjacent to the hotel. So, this is the context that makes especially this panorama for me “Best of 2015”.
