Fortunately we experienced abundant sunshine and pleasant breezes during our brief visit to the island as we rode our bikes from the ferry terminal to Rackwick, and whilst hiking overland to see the Old Man of Hoy, a picturesque sea stack on the west end of the island.
This immersive panorama attempts to give some idea of the sheer number of rounded bounders and cobbles composing the beach, with their uncounted numbers and variations of weathering and coloration.
Perhaps one day we shall return and stay in the bothy just out of site behind this rising slope of stones.
