GISS 2008 - A Workshop held by Me

This summer I gave a lecture and a workshop about panoramas for some people. It was organized by the University of West Hungary and all was a part of the "Geoinformation International Summer School 2008", GISS 2008.

This panorama was made as a demonstration of how to make a spherical panorama with a panoramic head. You can see me at the podium, I gave this lecture about panoramas for this little group.

I’ve jittered a little bit because I usually don’t speak English in front of so many people. Fortunately this was gone in the first 5 minutes and I realized that those 2 years reading English technical papers and scientific materials helped me a lot.

For the lecture I prepared everything ... but one thing. If you open the fullscreen version, you can even see me at the podium. The fact, that you can see me there is due to the photographs taken by my girlfriend and assistant Eszter Kallai. I’ve forgotten namely about the picture from myself.

A kind guy called Suchin has asked me at the end of the lecture “What if I forget to take a picture, or something went wrong with stitching?”

Suddenly I couldn’t respond with a good enough answer, I’ve just thrown back “Photoshop can make magic!”

After that a small laugh went trough the room but I meant it as I said it. You can see it. I inserted a picture with a completely different viewpoint and it is almost undetectable. If you look at the fullscreen version long enough, you will have a feeling that there’s something wrong with that backpack at the table and as if I am a little larger as I used to.

By the way, later I gave a second answer for that question too. If the scenery has a lot of moving stuff, I used to do 2 or 3 sets of pictures to assure the perfect stitch. But not this time, unfortunately.

This panorama has a special making-of. Not every day happens that you forgot to download the stitched panorama sources from the portable HDD to the local home server, and from the work you've got only very slow connection to your home server.

So my best choice would be to disassemble the qtvr file and resize the cube faces in Photoshop. I know about a free software whereby mov files could be disassembled, but I can't find it anywhere. It was a simple exe binary for windows. Right now I'm downloading the RAW files from home, but it needs a lot of time and in this way I should re-stitch all the pictures just for this thumbnail view. PS: I mean it not as an offense, the best would be if someone could drop me a private mail with the name of the software. I don't want to spread the internet with stolen QTVRs. Bests, "
