Point Betsie Lighthouse was built in 1858 to mark the southern entrance to the Manitou Passage on Lake Michigan. The lighthouse was managed by keepers for over 106 years until automated in 1983. On July 20, 2008 I traveled to the light to witness the 100th Anniversary of the Chicago to Mackinac sailboat race. Unfortunately the low fog obscured the record number of boats passing by.
