Although I was prepared to shoot in a narrow spot, we were quite surprised by the huge size of this crevasse. With a maximum height of 15 meters and a width of up to 5 meters, the crevasse was so big that one could walk on the base. It takes several decades until snow is transformed into glacial ice. Each layer visible in the ice represents the snow of a year.
With its surreal look this panorama reminds me of the fragility of our environment and puts a human life in relation to time. That is why this image is my selection for the best of 2008 event.
