The Modersohnbrücke is named after the German painter Friedrich Wilhelm Otto Modersohn. It was built in 1913-1914 and was first named Hohenlohebrücke. At that time the bridge was made of concrete. Due to heavy signs of wear it had to be torn down in 1999 and was reconstructed in 2000-2002 as a steel arch bridge.

The bridge offers a nice view along the railroad track of the S-Bahn (commuter train) in Berlin district Friedrichshain. In Summer at sunset it is a popular place among young people to hang out, have a beer (or two!) and watch the sun go down. In the distance you can see the Fernsehturm, Berlin's television tower.
