Cape Maleas

The Cape Maleas is located on the northeast of Peloponnisos, in the region of Lakonia. It is the second most northern point of mainland Greece. This Cape was worshiped and sung for from ancient times till today more than any other sea passage.

The descriptions from Homer are very distinct as the Odyssey characters confront it with great woe for its unpredictable waters.

Pausanias describes the cape from his own travels in his book “Lakonika” and focuses on the two Temples on each of the cape’s side.

The present day lighthouse on the cape’s edge used to house a guard but is now abandoned and works with electric batteries that are changed once a year.

The path leading to the cape is a good three-hour hike from the closest village, Velanidia.

Technical Parts:
The photo-shooting took place after sunrise and every shot of the pano took 7-10 minutes to complete (45-50 min total for the pano).

The illumination was made with artificial light (Fiber optics, torches etc). Both the interior and exterior of the lighthouse as well as the mountain! was lit in this way.
