Sitting about 14' above the dry sea grass, we have here a bird's eye view of a small salt marsh island on the coast of Connecticut. Our perspective offers a view of the surrounding waterway and the dry lands and neighborhoods beyond. Long Island Sound is to the south where our first view faces.
We are perched on an actual Osprey nest which sits safely upon an elevated platform in the middle of the marsh island. The Ospreys have already flown south for the winter months leaving us with this great opportunity to experience their home and habitat in a very unique way.
Many natural habitats in and around Fairfield, Connecticut, are being preserved and protected by volunteer citizen groups and the town governments and their conservation departments. The preservation of Great Salt Marsh Island here is a shared effort involving the Town of Fairfield and the Aspetuck Land Trust.
