Trois-Rivières is also the regional capital of the Mauricie, a vast territory of 39,748 square kilometres. Founded in1634, Trois-Rivières is Québec's second
oldest city. It has a population of 126,438, making it the eighth largest municipality in the province. Situated on the banks of a river, at the junction of two economic regions, Trois-Rivières extends over a basin of some 475,000 inhabitants, and is located only 138 kilometres from Montreal and 130 kilometres from Quebec City on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River.
Surrounded with lakes and rivers it is the best place to live, a nice blend of nature and city life.
On the harbor front close the old part of the town, there is animation all summer long and we often see cruise ships laying on for a visit.
Looking for something complete, there is a lot to see in here, major shrines, museums, the oldest Canadian Forgery, National Park and international festivals like the Vocal Art Festival and the International Poetry Festival.
Sports like the Grand Prix Racing de Trois Rivières and the International Canoe Race on the St-Maurice River are among the best known.
As a regional capital there is plenty of shows going on like Showtime or the Trois-Rivières Symphonic Orchestra in a really nice old concert hall ( a must see).
Between old places and new grounds you will find University, Colleges, Shopping Centers, Congress Hall and a Regional Airport.
