History's Largest Group Meditation for World Peace!
"Take a deep breath in, and let's close our eyes." With that invitation, an estimated 2.5 million people entered a silence that could be heard world-wide. Attending the largest guided meditation in history, participants came from 144 countries covering six continents; representing diverse religions, races, social and economic classes. They traveled to Bangalore, India , February 17,18 and 19 for one cause... WORLD PEACE.
A 225-acre airfield became a global village with international speakers, performers, artists, cultural programs and 3,800 musicians displayed on a 3.5 acre stage (the size of three football fields).
The meditation was guided by humanitarian and spiritual leader H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who founded the non-profit, humanitarian Art of Living Foundation, which is the United Nations' largest volunteer based Non-Governmental Organization. The program attracted people with a vision of "One World Family" and featured such world leaders as the President of India, the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, the President of Slovenia, representatives from Iraq, Croatia, Sri Lanka, and many leading artists, actors, and musicians.
Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Ruud Lubbers said, "The Art of Living is the beginning for everybody and everything. It is the way of humanity, harmony and rendering service to humanity. The Art of Living helps all to live up to the future for generations to come. Love will prevail."
The theme of the celebration was echoed by State King, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, from Ghana: "One day life will come to an end and the question will be, did you serve humanity?"
