USS Lexington / Blue Ghost

The Blue Ghost, officially known as the USS Lexington is a 33 thousand ton aircraft carrier. Once a brave warrior of the cold oceans, she's now a museum on water and is situated in the Texas Coastal Bend area on Corpus Christi Bay which is fed by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

She is 910 feet long and has 16 decks. She was launched in 1942, commissioned in 1943, and decommissioned in 1991.

At night, the Lex is brightly lit with blue lighting which causes the surrounding beach areas to glow eerily.

Some say that her engine room is haunted by the ghost of a “polite, knowledgeable, and kind”, blue-eyed, 19 to 20 year seaman. You can view the Caller Times' (local newspaper) live ghostcam here.

Inspiration

I was dining outdoors at Pier 99 one night in July after an early evening photo shoot. The cold beer, the cool evening breeze, and the wonderful view of the Lex's lights, inspired me to photograph her from the restaurant's public boat dock once I was done with my meal.
