The Tall Ships' Races 2009

In my archive I found a panorama of an event that took place in the summer of 2009, which today, in conditions of isolation, is impossible not only to organize, but also to imagine. In Summer 2009 the route of the Tall Ships' Races around the Baltic Sea was the next: Gdynia (Poland) – Saint Petersburg (Russia) – Turku (Finland) – Klaipeda (Lithuania). During the stop between legs, the ships were moored at berths on both banks of the Bolshaya Neva river.

The races are designed to encourage international friendship and training for young people in the art of sailing. The races are held annually (since 1956) in European waters and consists of two racing legs of several hundred nautical miles, and a "cruise in company" between the legs. Over one half of the crew of each ship participating in the races must consist of young people (which must be aged between 15 and 25 years of age and who do not need any previous experience).
