Major attraction at Kåseberga: the megalithic monument ‘Ales Stenar’ (Ale’s Stones).
Largest and best-preserved ship-shaped stone alignment in Sweden, it stands 30 meters above sea level. Comprising 59 stone blocks weighing up to five tonnes each, the monument is 63 m. long X 18 m. wide.
The site takes its name from Scanian folklore, which claims that it is the tomb of King Ale.
I’d been to this part of Sweden several times before and, for various reasons, I’d always missed out on visiting this extraordinary place.
That mistake has now finally been rectified late August this year, and I have only myself to blame for having been so inept at discovering this place: in this case, the deception would stem from myself, misreading a map or my own lack of insight, or perhaps for other obscure reasons, who knows?
